
BKSDA Agam found Rhizanthes Lowii in Lake Maninjau Region

Lubukbasung (ANTARA) - The Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of Agam Resort, W Sumatra found a rare flower of Rhizanthes Lowii in the Lake Maninjau area, located in Kubuak, Nagari Matua Mudiak, Matur District, on Saturday.
The BKSDA Forest Ecosystem Controllers at Agam Resort, Ade Putra in Lubukbasung, on Sunday, said that they found dozens of rare flower knobs with various sizes.
"We also found the Rhizanthes Lowii Flower after the vase was in full bloom a few weeks ago. In the vicinity of the location we also found corpses of Amorphophallus variabilis type six vegetative and two in full bloom, "he said.
The invention of the flower was in a protected forest around Lake Maninjau.
While searching the protected forest, BKSDA Agam Resort officials found a rare flower knob that grew at the root of the plant.
"This is our third invention, because previously we also found the flower in Kubu, Jorong Panji, Nagari Maninjau, Tanjungraya District and Simpang Dingin Data, Nagari Paninjau, Tanjungraya District," he said.
This parasitic plant has the same physical characteristics similar to the rafflesia flower that has no stem, roots, leaves and chlorophyll so that this plant cannot carry out photosynthesis but depends on its host.
This plant used to live in an area with a height of 500-1300 masl.
For Sumatra, especially W Sumatra, this plant was found in three types namely, Rhizanthes deceptor, Rhizanthes Lowii and Rhizanthes Infanticida.
Damage to its habitat has resulted in Rhinzanthes being on the verge of extinction. Rhizanthes is included in the Convention on International Trade in Endengered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES). (*)
