Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The Community Care of the Trains of West Sumatra (MPKAS) assesses the operational of airport train in Padang will improve the reputation of Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) because it is now equipped with railway transportation mode.
"The presence of the airport train does not only suppress the traffic congestion on the highway, but also raises the name Minangkabau Airport internationally," MPKAS Secretary, Nofrin Napilus said in here on Tuesday (May 22).
He said that in general, the big cities in the world will raise its own rating when they have an airfield, then they have airport train too.
"It means that Padang can be equated with other big cities in the world that also have airport trains," he noted.
In addition, with the airport train, the certainty of time for passengers who use the aircraft to the airport will be more secure.
He explained that in developing countries railway transportation, it is much more important because it can move large numbers of people and goods on a more measured time scale than vehicles on the highway.
Earlier, Head of West Sumatra Transportation Agency, Amran said that the integrated railway directly with the airport in Padang is the third in Indonesia after in Kualanamu, North Sumatra, and Soekarno-Hatta, Tangerang, Banten.
"From approximately 237 airports in Indonesia, only two of which are integrated with railways such as Kualanamu and Soekarno-Hatta. Then Padang is being the third," he remarked. (cha)
