Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Official of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Ketaping Station of Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra said the province has the potential to be hit by moderate to heavy rain with strong winds until the next two days.

"The potential for rain and high winds occurs especially in coastal areas such as Padang, South Pesisir, Mentawai Islands and Padang Pariaman during the afternoon until night," BMKG Observation and Information section Budi Samiadji said in Padang on Wednesday.

According to him in general, the climate of West Sumatra is cloudy in the morning until noon, but from late afternoon until the evening rain clouds gather in some areas of the province and cause rain with varying intensity, sometimes then dense.

Some areas that have the potential to rain are West Pasaman, Agam, Pariaman, Padang Pariaman, Mentawai Islands, Limapuluh Kota and South Pesisir.

In addition to the rain, BMKG also reminds the public with the potential of strong winds estimated at 60 kilometers per hour.

For the temperature of West Sumatra in general 19 to 31 degrees celsius and the average wind moving from Southwest to Northeast with a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

"People are also encouraged to provide umbrellas and raincoats for motorcyclists," he added.

Budi also reminds people who ride a motorcycle to stop first if there is rain accompanied by strong winds to avoid if there is a tree or billboard uprooted. (cha)
