Ship crew  from Padang reported missing in Malaysian waters

Padang (ANTARA) - A crew member from KotoTangah, Padang, W Sumatra named Adithya Sebastian was reported missing in Malaysian waters after allegedly jumping off the ship with five other crew members.

According to his uncle Adrizal in Padang on Sunday from information of his friend who survived, on April 7, 2020, a fight occured between six Indonesian crew and Chinese crew on the Fu Yuan Yu 1218 ship, precisely in the waters of the Malacca Strait with Singapore.

Then the six crew members plunged into the sea and four people were rescued by Malaysian maritime and repatriated to Indonesia.

"Two more crew members, Adithya Sebastian and his friend, Sugiyana Ramadhan from Sukabumi, have yet to be found," he said.

Then the company on behalf of Jhon Albert contacted our family and said there was no violence on the ship.

"The company has reported to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the company is waiting for information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," he said.

While based on the notification document from PT Mandiri Tunggal Bahari as the distributor company, he explained based on the information of the captain, six crew members from Indonesia jumped on Tuesday April 7, 2020 at 02.43 A.M in the morning.

At first the captain of the ship did not know that there were six crew members who jumped into the sea and after being searched for an hour were not found.

Then the captain of the ship realized that the six crew members had jumped into the sea after seeing CCTV footage.

According to the captain of the ship, they wanted to go home because the position of the ship was close between the Straits of Malacca and Singapore.

At the time of the incident, four crew members had been rescued by another ship that happened to pass near them and two crew members had not been found to this day.

His uncle hopes that his nephew will soon be found and followed up by related parties.
