The price of red chilies and onions downed, Padang notes 0.02 percent deflation in March 2020

Padang (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency of West Sumatra (BPS) noted 0.02 percent deflation in Padang, March 2020 due to decreasing prices of red chili and garlic.

Amid the outbreak of the corona virus, the prices of food commodities for red chili, garlic, chicken, and tuna have decreased in Padang, said the Head of West Sumatra BPS, Pitono in Padang, Thursday.

According to him other commodities that also downed were spinach, cooking oil, tomatoes, tilapia, potatoes and beans.

While a number of other commodities have price increases in March 2020 such as gold, skipjack fish, green chili, sugar, bottled water, coconut, young jackfruit and eggs.

Based on monitoring in the Padang Raya Market, the price of shallots reached Rp38 thousand per kilogram or an increase from the previous price of only Rp26 thousand per kilogram.

A trader at Pasar Raya Padang, Silma Adinda said the increase in the price of shallots since four days ago.

In addition to red onion, the price of ginger also rose to Rp. 32 thousand per kilogram compared to previously only Rp. 20 thousand per kilogram.

He said the price of red chillies fell to Rp24 thousand per kilogram from the previous Rp38 thousand per kilogram. Then green chili fell to Rp20 thousand per kilogram compared to previous Rp24,000 per kilogram.

"The cayenne pepper also dropped by Rp. 25 thousand per kilogram compared to previously Rp. 35 thousand per kilogram," he added.

Then the price of garlic also fell by Rp36 thousand per kilogram compared to Rp40 thousand per kilogram previously. Tomato prices also dropped from Rp7 thousand per kilogram to Rp6 thousand per kilogram.

"Although many commodity prices have fallen, buyers remain quiet," he said.

According to him it was caused by the issue of COVID-19 disease. So that many people who afraid leave the house, including shopping at the market.
