Simpang Empat (ANTARA) - Ma-apam tradition or cooking food from rice flour with 1.704 hearths in West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra broke the world on Thursday (3/12).
"After verifying the number of hearths reached 1,704. It is amazing and not only an Indonesian record but a world record," Triyono said, Manager of the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) at Simpang Empat, on Thursday.
According to him initially the West Pasaman District Government proposed the number of hearths of 1,500 to break the Indonesian record. But after verifying the number of hearths reached 1,704.
"Thus, it is not the Indonesian record that we gave but a world record," he said.
He mentioned the ma-apam tradition is a tradition of the West Pasaman community with high cultural values.
"Previously, Indonesia's record was held by Aceh with 1,000 hearths. Now it was broken by West Pasaman with 1,704 hearths," he said.
West Pasaman Regent Yulianto accompanied by the Chairperson of the Committee Sifrowati Yulianto welcomed the world record award
According to him the ma-apam tradition is an effort to preserve culture by maintaining togetherness and frienship before Ramadhan or Rajab Month.
Participants from women aged 30 years and over.
"The tradition of ma-apam until now continues every entering the Rajab Month. This tradition needs to be preserved in order to foster togetherness," he said.
The ingredients for making apam are easy to obtain, such as rice flour, coconut milk, salt, sugar, and a number of natural sweeteners such as palm sugar. After being prepared all the ingredients are stirred together and form a white liquid.
