Simpang Empat, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Orders of kolang-kaling fruit (sugar palm fruit) in Talamau Sub-district, West Pasaman District, West Sumatra increased since the beginning of Ramadhan (fasting month) because of the high number of people who use it as breaking the fast menu.

One of sugar palm fruit farmers in Talamau Sub-district, Samsi said that this year the price of sugar palm fruit at the producer level rose compared to the previous year. The increase was in line with economic conditions and selling prices in the market.

The high demand to make the sale price of sugar palm fruit at the level of producers or craftsmen also increase. In the previous year, one kilogram of sugar palm fruit is sold at Rp5,000, but now it rose to Rp8,000 per kilogram.

According to him, the increase in the selling price is considered fair along with the rising prices of food and other necessities in the market.

Besides, he mentioned since the beginning of Ramadhan, he along with a number of family members produce sugar palm fruit.

After the fruits are harvested, they immediately boil them for several hours. Then do the stripping stages so that the contents of the fruits can be sold to traders.

In one day, he and a number of family members can produce about 20 pounds or even more.

The amount depends on the demand from the trader and the stock of the fruits coming to the location of redemption and stripping.

He predicted demand for sugar palm fruit will continue to increase during Ramadhan and it will return to normal while entering Eid al-Fitr. (cha)
