Padang Panjang Holds 24-Hour Storytelling Festival

Padang Panjang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, will hold a 24-Hour Storytelling Festival to celebrate the World Storytelling Day on Saturday (March 24).

There are 52 registered storytellers from inside and outside West Sumatra Province, who will participate in the 24 Hours` Storytelling Festival, the head of the Padang Panjang Piterat Literacy Forum (FPL), Muhammad Subhan, said here on Tuesday.

"The storytellers from outside West Sumatra are from South Tangerang and Riau, and those from West Sumatra are from West Pasaman, Bukittinggi, Payakumbuh, and others," he noted.

He stated that the storytelling festival was initiated by FPL, along with Library and Filing Service of Padang Panjang and Gang Aster literacy Village.

"The activity will be held in Gang Aster, Bukit Surungan Village, on Saturday (March 24)," he remarked.

Participants do not have to be professional storytellers, and those belonging to a variety of other professions can also participate.

"Storytellers will tell stories voluntarily and relay, and they can use various media to deliver the storytelling," he added.

The aim of the event is to educate the people to revive the habit of storytelling for children, both at home and in formal and non-formal education institutions.

Head of Library and Filing Services of Padang Panjang, Alvi Sena, revealed that storytelling could help improve the mental confidence of children.

"We can deliver positive messages that help build the children`s characters through storytelling and help the children to be confident in communication," he revealed. (*)
