Three generations with blue eyes live in Tanah Datar

Batusangkar (ANTARA) - A family in Jorong Galanggang Tangah Nagari Sungayang, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra has blue eyes or commonly known as waardenburg syndrome.

Tuti Fariani (58), a member of the blue-eyed family in Nagari Sungayang, Monday, said that she got the blue eyes from her mother.

"I got this blue eye from my parents and the same thing also happened to my child," she said.

She said blue eyes were a rare genetic disorder that could affect skin color, hair, eyes and face shape.

But for her and her family the blue-eyed complaint only occurs when she saw direct sunlight for a long time. On the other hand, she can see clearly with her blue eyes at night.

"For us, the eyes and hair just have problem when we see the sun, tears come out spontaneously but it doesn't hurt. Meanwhile, my son with brown eyes has white hair since junior high school," she said.

She said that although her blue eyes are derivative, not all family members have the same eyeballs, such as her first child has blue eyes on the right while the other eye is brown, the second child also has a few but not too clear blue eyes.

The third child has both blue eyes, the fourth and fifth children do not have blue eyes, and herself has one brown eye and one blue eye.

She admitted that even though she has a different eye color from most people, she is very happy with the color of her eyes and be a pride.

"I used to be embarrassed because someone else called it cat eyes, but now many people want their eyes to be colored by using soft lenses," she said.
