Indonesia Supports IOM Handle Refugees: Coordinating Minister
Jakarta, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Wiranto said Indonesia supports the activities of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in solving the problems of migrants as well as refugees.
"Indonesia will continue its support to IOM that relates to migrant and refugee issues. The support is in line with the fairness and civilized principles of humanity, implemented by Indonesia," Wiranto said here on Tuesday.
He added the refugees and migrant issues can be solved if countries at the regional and international levels are willing to cooperate.
Wiranto welcomed the visit of Director General of IOM William Lacy Swing who met with the minister.
"Despite Indonesia is not the destination of refugees, but we are ready to cooperate with other countries and also with IOM to address the humanitarian problem," Wiranto said.
Indonesia, says Wiranto, also welcomed the IOM's offer to provide "capacity building" for refugees, and the victims of human trafficking. (*)
