Painan (ANTARA) - A Whale shark with a length of about seven meters was stranded around the waters of the Batang Surantih River Estuary, Sutera District, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra, Monday.

"Before being stranded, the Whale Sharks have often been seen swimming in shallow waters in the last five years," said the head of the Harapan Jaya Bagan Sutera group, Ramadan in Sutera, Monday.

He added that before being stranded, a number of fishermen had tried to herd the sharks into deeper waters, but these efforts failed.

Regarding this, he admitted that he had contacted a number of parties such as the Pesisir Selatan Fisheries Service, West Sumatra Marine and Fisheries Service and others.

Previously, on October 19, 2019, a Whale Shark was also stranded in local waters, precisely on Tan Sridano Beach, Batang Kapas District.

Before being stranded, the poor shark first entered the edge trawl, local fishermen tried to save it by herding it to a rather deep water, but these efforts failed and the fish eventually died.

Furthermore, on August 6, 2019, similar shark were also stranded on Taluak Batuang Beach which is also in Batang Kapas District, this poor shark was buried in its location as stranded by a team from the Padang Coastal and Marine Resources Management Agency (BPSPL) the day after that.

And finally on August 9, 2019, this type of shark was also stranded on Tan Sridano Beach and the stranded location was only about 300 meters from the stranded location on October 19, 2019.
