Jakarta (ANTARA) - Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) through the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC) Jakarta monitors the growth of tropical cyclone seeds with the code "98S" located in the Indian Ocean southwest of Bengkulu.

"Based on an analysis dated May 21, 2020, at 07.00 A.M, the cyclones were at 6.8 South Latitude and 93.0 East Longitude, or about 1,072 km southwest of Bengkulu," said acting Deputy of BMKG Meteorology Herizal in a written statement received at Jakarta, Thursday.

At present, the tropical cyclone seed"98S" has a minimum air pressure at its center of 1,000 hPa with a maximum wind speed ranging from 25 to 30 knots.

The tropical cyclone seed "98S" is predicted to potentially become a tropical cyclone in the next six to twelve hours with a south-east movement away from Indonesia.

The existence of tropical cyclone seeds "98S" resulted in the growth of rain clouds around it, including in the areas of Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, DKI Jakarta, and West Java.

"People are advised to be vigilant because it is predicted that these areas have the potential to be affected by heavy rains and strong winds in some areas," he said.

In addition, the potential of sea waves with a height of more than three meters is predicted to occur in the territorial waters west of the Nias Islands to the West Mentawai, West Sumatra, Bengkulu-Enggano island, the western waters of Lampung, the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra, the southern Sunda Strait, the southern waters of Java, and the Indian Ocean south of Java to the south of NTB.

"Fishermen and ships passing by are advised to be vigilant and cautious. People are advised to remain cautious of the potential for heavy rains that can have an impact, such as floods, landslides and flash floods," he added. (*)
