Painan, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The Government of South Pesisir District, West Sumatra launched a literacy canteen at local Archives and Library Service as an effort to increase reading interest of the community, especially the students.
"Reading habits must be improved because it will add knowledge and open the horizons of thinking," South Pesisir Regent, Hendrajoni stated in Painan on Monday.
Moreover, reading is a religious message, even it became the first revelation received by the Prophet Muhammad, he remarked.
He mentioned in the literacy canteen, visitors will be presented various interesting and educational reading, free wifi facilities and comfortable seating.
At that location, visitors can also eat a variety of snacks and soft drinks provided by canteen manager at affordable prices.
"We hope that the literacy canteen in the future can be utilized as well as possible, so that its presence is efficient for the visitors," he hoped.
Besides, literacy in the simple sense is reading and writing, especially in Indonesia, it is still low based on the records of a number of survey institutions.
Based on the survey For International Student Assessment or PISA program, it mentions the culture of literacy in Indonesia was in ranks 64th out of 65 countries surveyed in 2012.
