Padang (ANTARA) - Kampung Saribu Gonjong (Sarugo) or a thousand pointed roofs typical of Rumah Gadang, Limapuluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra received national attention after being nominated and having the chance to become the champion of the 2020 Anugerah Pesona Indonesia (API).
"The name of the village is very unique. Sarugo is the Minang language for heaven. However, this name refers more to the many ‘gonjong’ roofs typical of Minang Traditional Houses in one village," said Head of the West Sumatra Tourism Office, Novrial in Padang, Saturday.
According to him, the Minang traditional house in the village is neatly arranged so it is pleasing to the eye and also very instagramable. The authenticity of the building structure is also interesting to enjoy, such as carvings that can also be developed into batik motifs.
The people of Kampung Sarugo also still maintain the rules of cultural and religious customs so that the harmony between humans and nature is felt.
Apart from its rumah gadang, the village is also known for its garden produce in the form of oranges which taste sweet and fresh. Residents call it Jesigo (Siam Gunung Omeh oranges). Tourists who come to Sarugo Village also have the opportunity to pick fresh oranges.
Kampung Sarugo is well known locally in West Sumatra, but not yet well known on a national scale so it needs promotion to attract the attention of tourists or travel agents.

There are many ways that can be done for promotion. For example, participating in a national competition such as in Anugerah Pesona Indonesia (API) is one that is quite effective.
"Now, Kampung Sarugo is included in the nomination for the Most Popular Traditional Village in API 2020. Let's give a vote so that this destination is more widely known," he said.
