Padang (ANTARA) - The Tourism Office of West Sumatra said tourism in the local province had continued to grow since the enforcement of the new normal until the end of August.

"Tourism in West Sumatra continues to grow , from visiting tourist destinations, hotel occupancy rates, and the operation of restaurants and entertainment places," said the Head of the West Sumatra Tourism Office, Novrial, in Padang, Sunday.

He said that from tourist destination visits, a number of mainstay tourist objects in West Sumatra have begun to be visited.

Among them are tourist attractions in Padang Beach, Air Manis Beach, Harau in Limapuluh Kota Regency, Bukittinggi, Pariaman, and others.

Meanwhile, for hotel occupancy rates, occupancy at a number of hotels also continued to increase, especially on weekends.

"For Bukittinggi, the occupancy of a number of hotels reaches 75-80 percent on weekends, while in Padang it is around 30-40 percent," he said.

Novrial also said that restaurants, cafes and entertainment places are also fully operational, such as in Padang.

He said that his party together with other district or city governments continued to try to boost the tourism sector in the local area.

Some of the efforts made by the West Sumatra Tourism Office are to intensify virtual-based promotions through social media.

This was done to introduce and maintain the image of a tourist destination so that the public would remember it.

"The festival is held virtually, the output is in the form of videos or photos that are distributed via social media by collaborating with influencers," he said.

His party is also trying to foster confidence in tourists who come by holding free swab tests to hotel employees and officers at tourist destinations.

Novrial emphasized that in an effort to break the chain of transmission of COVID-19, visitors to tourist destinations are required to wear masks, wash hands, maintain distance, according to health protocols.
