Residents reminded to wear face masks although COVID-19 cases begin to slope

Padang (ANTARA) - The Health Office of Padang City reminded the residents to still wear face masks when doing activities outside the home even though COVID-19 cases have started to slope.

“During this pandemic, mask is one effort to protect us from the spread of COVID-19,” Head of the Padang City Health Office stated in Padang, on Thursday.

According to him at this time the COVID-19 case in Padang was already sloping but the level of reproduction of the virus was still above one.

Feri said wearing a mask had become a necessity. Residents were invited to wear the mask, which is to cover the nose and mouth so that the droplets not affect other people.

"Let's keep wearing masks, because we are not in normal life, but new normal," he added.

He conveyed that in the last two week there has been a decrease in the number of residents exposed and an increase in the cure rate.

"Healing reached 84 percent, while deaths fell to 4.3 percent. It means we are below the national figure, "he said.

He hoped the support of all residents so that no additional cases occur. Residents are advised to remain disciplined and obey the health protocols.

While based on data collected from the Padang Health Office up to July 23, 2020 the total population of Padang positive confirmed of COVID-19 reached 592 people.

From that numbers, as many as 31 people were treated, 21 were isolated independently at home, 24 were quarantined, 25 died and 491 were cured.

Previously, the health expert of Andalas University Padang, Dr.Andani Eka Putra said that to break the COVID-19 chain, need socialization in the community to comply with protocols such as wearing masks.

She estimated that up to the next two years may not be able to eliminate COVID-19 so, we just have to break the chain of transmission by implementing the COVID-19 protocol and massive checks.
