Padang (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) noted that rising airplane ticket prices and intercity transportation contributed to inflation in W Sumatra during the Ramadhan 1441 Hijri.
"In May 2020 W Sumatra experienced an inflation of 0.63 percent which was contributed by the transportation group related to Lebaran homecoming," said W Sumatra's BI representative, Wahyu Purnama in Padang, Thursday.
According to him the increase in air transportation and intercity transportation rates is in accordance with historical patterns that tend to increase during the Lebaran season.

He explained that in the last three years during the Lebaran season, the transportation, communication and financial services group accounted for 0.79 percent inflation in June 2017, 0.89 percent in June 2018 and 0.50 percent in May 2019.
"The increase in air transport prices in May 2020 was also caused by a doubling in air transportation prices in several regions following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic which caused a reduction in air passenger capacity up to 50 percent," he explained.
He conveyed the inflation rate of W Sumatra in May 2020 was recorded above the national inflation realization of 0.07 percent.
Other groups that contributed to inflation were the food, beverage and tobacco group which experienced inflation of 0.14 percent.
"The price of shallots increase due to supply in the market reduced due to rainfall which has an impact on productivity. Chicken meat prices increased due to the demand increase during the Eid and Eid," he said.

On the other hand a number of commodities experienced price declines during May 2020 such as red chili due to abundant supply in the market, then garlic prices also decline due to adequate supply in the market.
To control the inflation in the regions, especially in the month of Ramadan, the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) of W Sumatra Province has carried out various efforts to control inflation.
For example by increasing the coordination of TPID members in maintaining the supply, and distribution of food in W Sumatra region.
Then selling Ramadhan basic food packages online through the local marketplace Bajojo.id or through the Farmers Store (TTIC)
The last, appeal the public to do shopping through the media in W Sumatra.
