Sijunjung traditional settlement enter a tentative list of world heritage

Muaro (ANTARA) - Consistent in maintaining the existence of the Rumah Gadang and the preservation of local culture, now traditional settlement in Sijunjung are included in the tentative list of UNESCO world heritage.


Proposing Padang Ranah Minangkabau culture goes to world heritage after going through various stages.

One of the stages is the conservation of Traditional Village Rumah Gadang in the Padang Ranah Nagari Sijunjung neighborhood, West Sumatra.

The conservation opening involving the West Sumatra Cultural Heritage Conservation Center was opened by the Sijunjung Regent Yuswir Arifin on Thursday.

The opening activity of the conservation was marked by the beating of the gong, the event was also attended by the Head of the OPD, the Sijunjung Sub-District Head, the Mayor of Nagari Sijunjung and the Community Leaders.

In his remarks the Regent welcomed the director of preservation of Cultural Heritage and the Museum which in this occasion was represented by R. Widiati as Head of Sub Division of Preservation of Cultural Heritage, Nurmatias as Head of West Sumatra Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency

He said, the traditional village of Nagari Sijunjung has been included in the tentative list of UNESCO world heritage.

This transient residential area has an area of more than 150 H with 76 Rumah Gadang in it while maintaining the preservation of its culture such as Batobo Kongsi, Bakaul Adat, Slaughtering Adat, Basiriah Tando, Maanta Marapulai, Baralek Adat, Batagak Gala, Yuswir explained.

At the end of the event the Regent of Sijunjung and his entourage carried out tree planting activities along the edge of the pond in the Tobek area of the Sijunjung customary village. *
