Simpang Empat, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The price of red chili in early Ramadhan (fasting month) in a number of traditional markets in West Pasaman District, West Sumatra increased from Rp28,000 to Rp30,000 per kilogram, but currently the price rose to Rp40,000 per kilogram.
One of the red chili traders in Padang Tujuh market in here, Imam said that the rise in chili price due to the high demand of community and the lack of stock in market.
Despite of rising prices, some people still shop and buy it because most people are depend on red chili in cooking especially in the beginning of Ramadhan that there is a tradition to cook meat so it needs red chili.
He predicted that the price increase will continue until the end of Ramadhan because the needs and consumers of red chili continue to increase, while the stock is running out on the agent.
"Currently some traders in West Pasaman are still selling chilies of local farmers, but it is likely that local chili stock will run out for one week," he added. (cha)
