Bukittinggi, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Central Bureau of Statistics of Bukittinggi Municipality, West Sumatra, recorded the area is experiencing deflation of 0.22 percent in February 2018.
Head of Bukittinggi BPS, Mukhlis in Bukittinggi, on Thursday said that the expenditure group that is very influential on deflation is foodstuff category, although other spending groups experienced an increase in index.
Deflation is the general condition of goods price and the rising value of money while the purchasing power of people down.
In general, in February 2018, the price of various commodities, especially in the foodstuffs group, showed a decline in prices.
The largest price drop occurred in onion commodities, chicken meat, red chili, green chilli, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, rice, dencis fish and other commodities.
In February 2018, 27 of 82 cities Consumer Price Index (CPI) experienced deflation while the remaining 55 cities experienced inflation.
The highest deflation occurred in Medan and the lowest in Lubuk Linggau while the highest inflation occurred in Jayapura and the lowest in Palangkaraya.
Previously West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno asked the regents and mayors in the region to be more concerned about inflation.
"When food prices are uncertain, head of the region should be more concerned and cope together," Irwan remarked. (cha)
