Lubukbasung (ANTARA) - A durian picker from Lubuk Aluang, Rian in Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra earned Rp 1.2 million per day during the durian season.
"I received the Rp. 1.2 million per day when the durian fruit was quite lots and if the durian fruit just a little, I only got Rp. 300 thousand per day, because the wage for picking durian depends on the amount of durian that is lowered and the wage for Rp. 1,000 per fruit," he said. Lubukbasung, Sunday.
He said the wages were collected and part of it was used to pay installments on motorbike and to help parents.
Rian works as a durian picker after graduating from junior high school in 2010 and picks durian not only in West Sumatra, but in Jambi, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, North Sumatra, Aceh and Lampung.
"There are quite a lot of orders to pick durians and I never stop picking durians during 2020," he said.
He admitted, in picking the durian fruit, it takes courage, because the durian tree is quite high, reaching 150 meters.
In addition, durian fruit is generally located at the end of the branch and the durian tree is also a wasp nesting place.
"I have to be careful before climbing and if there is a wasp it must be expelled before the durian is picked using tools and lowered with a basket," he said.
Durian collector trader in Lubukbasung, Salwin (52) added that Rian was very fast at picking durian fruit and he only took one hour to pick 200 durians.
"I have been using his services since 2010 and without his help I was overwhelmed in fulfilling requests from traders in Jakarta," he said.
Salwin sent around 2,000 durian fruit to Jakarta for two days and the durian was shipped half-ripe, so that when durian arrived in Jakarta, it was ripe.
