BKSDA Agam extends registration of protected birds until early 2021

Lubukbasung (ANTARA) - The Natural Resource Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in Agam Resort, West Sumatra extended the registration of protected birds until January 21, 2021, after previously being closed on September 4, 2020.
"Registration of protected birds is extended after 18 days of registration of the bird is closed or the extension letter is issued on September 22, 2020," said the Head of the Agam Resort BKSDA, Ade Putra in Lubukbasung, Monday.
He said the extension of the bird registration was based on the Letter of the Director of Biodiversity Conservation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry No. S601 / KKH / MJ / KSDA: / 9/2020 dated 22 September 2020.
The letter is a follow-up to the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Number P.106 / 2018 concerning List of Protected Plants and Animals.
"The letter was delivered to all heads of BKSDA resorts throughout Indonesia," he said.
He added that the extension was due to the high public interest in reporting their pet birds to the BKSDA.
For that, Ade urged residents to immediately report protected birds to the Agam Resort BKSDA office.
This is because the bird is protected by Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning the Conservation of Living Natural Resources and their Ecosystems.
In this law, every person is prohibited from capturing, injuring, killing, storing, possessing, maintaining, transporting and trafficking both in life and death, with the threat of imprisonment for a maximum of five years.
"Currently there are residents who have contacted us to report their birds," he said.
Previously, the Agam Resort BKSDA had received registration of around 60 protected birds belonging to local residents from January to September 4, 2020.
The bird is a type of cica leaf, beo and others. One resident commonly has two birds.
The bird is registered with the local BKSDA collectively and individually. For collective registration, local BKSDA officers came to the bird lovers' location.
"We will dispatch officers to the location of bird lovers when they tell it to us," he said.
