"The increase in fish production from 2016 to 2017 is not significant, due to the frequent of bad weather," Head of the Marine and Fishery Service (DKP) of Padang, Eyviet Nazmar stated in Padang, Monday.

Other causes of insignificant increase in fishery production were also caused by licensing problems of ships that were struck by the rules of the center so that they could not operate several times.

In 2018, DKP of Padang targets to capture 22,000 tons of capture fisheries. To continue to boost fisheries production, it has been seeking assistance such as ship engines, converter kit of fishing boats that previously used fuel to switch to LPG to save more fuel.

"Up to now, there are 560 fishermen who have acquired converter kits, others are gradually granted," Eyviet said.

In addition, he also mentioned that until now Padang still export tuna to Japan once two weeks through Singapore or Jakarta.
