Padang (ANTARA) - The Government of Padang City has installed and provided free internet in 50 urban villages for students undergoing online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Until now, the free internet has been installed in 50 urban villages. We are targeting that by the end of the year it will be installed in all of the 104 urban villages," said the Head of the Padang City Communication and Information Agency, Rudy Rinaldy in Padang, Wednesday.

According to him, free internet access is a solution provided by the city government so that students who have difficulty learning online can take advantage of it.

"In addition, internet access also can make the area enter the digital world and can be used to support the economy of local residents, such as selling online," he added.

Not only in the village head office, internet will be installed in mosque, one mosque in each district with a total of 11.

He said that in other areas students who wanted to find internet access had to go up a hill, to rice fields to rivers  but in Padang they just came to the village head office.

For technical use, it is regulated by the local village head, if there are too many children, it can be divided into 10 children every two hours so that the speed is stable, he said.

He said that in 2021 he would increase bandwidth so that internet speeds in urban villages would be faster and could be used by the community.

Rudy added that the total internet network points provided by the Government of Padang have reached 125 points.

"This year, it is targeted that all urban villages will have free internet access that can be used by the public," he said.

Especially in Sungai Pisang Village, Bungus Teluk Kabung, free internet was also installed in two schools, Elementary School  13 and Junior High School 37 which can be used by local students to support the learning process.
