Padang (ANTARA) - W Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno has banned ships departing from Samudra Bungus Port to Mentawai Islands carrying passengers according to Permenhub No. 25 of 2020.

"We should be firm. No more passengers will be transported by ship to Mentawai," he said in Padang, on Sunday.

He explained that firmness was needed so that efforts to break the chain of distribution of COVID-19 were running optimally.

This is also in line with the efforts of the Mentawai district government to implement a local quarantine policy to prevent the spread of the corona virus in the area.

He said related to Permenhub No. 25 of 2020 concerning Transportation Control During the Eid Al-Fitr 1441 Hijri Homecoming to prevent the Spread of COVID-19, there were passengers who were excluded.

"Passengers who may enter Mentawai are the Army and Police or ASN (state civil apparatus) assigned in handling COVID-19. In addition there are also traders who carry their merchandise for the needs of the Mentawai Islands, such as food traders," he said.

However, they should be examined their health before sailing.

Meanwhile, fishing vessels are still allowed to sail on condition that they do not carry passengers (people) and only carry goods, such as merchandise and basic food needs.

Irwan said that to make the restrictions can be optimal, supervision would be carried out by the Indonesian Army and Police.
