Padang (ANTARA) - Head of the Padang Tourism Office, W Sumatra, Arfian said the 2019 Siti Nurbaya Festival event is expected to preserve the local arts and culture.
"The main target of this competition is to preserve the arts and culture of the region so that it can be introduced to the younger generation," Arfian said in Padang on Sunday.
In general, the event was also held as a forum for the "nagari" children community, as well as arts and cultural actors to participate and be competent.
Several competitions were held at the 2019 Siti Nurbaya Festival such as the "Suntiang Cucuak" Competition, "Basiba Kuruang" Shirt Competition, Minangkabau Dance, Minangkabau Song, and Randai.
Then there are also "tampuruang" sandals competition, making traditional cakes, children playing sipak rago, and a photo contest.
"The difference between this year's event and the previous one was a "gamad" contest," he said.
Gamad is one type of traditional Minangkabau music whose existence is now rarely found.
He said participants who had the talent and attractive appearance, would be invited by the government.
He gave an example like a traditional cake-making competition, the winner can be held as a provider of consumption in events or activities held by the government.
"It can improve the economy of the traditional cake-making citizens," he said.
In addition, in 2020 the government also plans to hold art shows in the mainstay tourist attractions to add attraction, at least twice a week.
A number of places prepared are Pantai Purus, Batang Arau, Gelanggang Siliah Baganti, and others.
In another part, the Siti Nurbaya Festival (FSN) which is an annual event from November 21-24, 2019.
The event is also a means of introducing Minangkabau art and culture to local and international tourists.
