Simpang Empat, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The Government of West Pasaman District, West Sumatra targets to produce 6.2 tons paddy per hectare in 2018.
"Our paddy production previously is 5.9 tons per hectare. This year, we target the production increase to 6.2 ton per hectare or more," Head of Horticulture Food Crops and Livestock Agency of West Pasaman, Memizesmita stated in Simpang Empat on Sunday.
He said that the paddy production in West Pasaman is always increasing continuously. In 2016, the area of paddy plant is 26,521.80 hectares with harvest area of 24,217,40 hectare. In here, the area can produce 121,217.02 tons paddy.
"There are three areas that have the highest production those are 26,816.87 tons from Lembah Melintang Sub-district, 24,666.21 ton from Talamau Sub-district, and 17,141.80 ton from Kinali Sub-district.
Furthermore, in 2017 the plant area increased and it becomes 32,228.38 hectares with harvest area of 27,852.40 hectares. Then the production increased to 139,795.76 tons.
"In 2018 we try to add the plant area with the new field so that it can increase paddy production to ensure food security," he added. (cha/el)
