Padang Pariaman Corn Production Reached 80,270 Tons

Parit Malintang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The corn production in Padang Pariaman District, West Sumatra, reached 80,270 tons in 2017, local government officials said.
"The number is up from the previous year which was only 54,848 tons," Head of Agriculture and Food Security Agency of Padang Pariaman , Yurisman Yakub stated in the Parit Malintang on Thursday.
He mentioned the largest production is in Lubuk Alung Sub-district with total production of 39,509 tons per year.
Then followed by Batang Anai Sub-district with corn production per year reached about 23,150 tons.
He explained that corn is grown by local farmers with 9,730 hectares of planting area while the harvest area reaches 9,400 hectares
"So our average production reaches 8.54 tons per hectare," he said.
Due to the increase in production, in August 2017, Padang Pariaman received an award from provincial government.
He said it will continue to increase corn production in the region as it has become a program of central government for food self-sufficiency.
In addition to the amount of production, he mentioned the number of corn processing machines in the area amounted to 118 units with details of 101 units of pemipil and 17 units of corn grinders.
The corns are marketed in Padang Pariaman District and to some districts and towns in the province. (cha)
