Jember, East Java, (Antara Sumbar) - A tectonic earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale jolted Jember District, East Java, early Tuesday morning at 01.35 am West Indonesia Standard Time (WIB).
Local Meteorology and Geophysics Office (BMKG) spokesman Musripan said the epicenter of the quake was located at 9.10 degrees southern latitude and 113.16 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 km, some 119 km southwest of Jember.
According to him, the earthquake did not have a potential to trigger a tsunami nor material damage, but the magnitude was strong enough to be felt by people in Gumukmas in Jember, and Tempursari in Lumajang district.
"People are urged to remain calm and continue to follow the direction of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), so there is no need to panic with misleading issues such as stronger aftershock will occur," he said. (*)
