TNI Presence has Helped Regional Program Implementation: Mayor

Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - The Mayor of Padang Municipality, West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah said that TNI presence in the area has helped the implementation of regional programs.

"So far, the TNI has helped the program and planning which is done by Padang City Government, hopefully the synergy continues to be maintained," he said when attending the 72nd TNI anniversary ceremony at Green Open Space (RTH) Imam Bonjol, Padang on Thursday (Oct 5).

One form of cooperation is a memorandum of understanding signed with Korem 032 Wirabraja some time ago.

"There is a signing MoU with Korem to instill nationalism and discipline to the State Civil Apparatus (ASN)," he said.

In addition, the arrangement and control of Padang Beach area as one of tourism objects is also inseparable from TNI contribution.

"The TNI so far has helped to deal with several issues such as brawl between students, juvenile delinquency, and the eradication of radicalism," he explained.

He hopes that a good relationship between people, government, TNI and Police will continue to wake up against something that threatens unity.

While Deputy Commander of the Navy's Major Base (Lantamal) II Padang, Marine Colonel Lasmono, confirmed the outermost island is a security priority of TNI.

"The security of the outer islands in Indonesia, is one of security priorities for TNI at this time from all forms of threat and violation of law," he said.

Several islands are considered strategic, such as Natuna, Yamdena, Selaru, Morotai, Biak, and Merauke.

As for West Sumatra, the outers island is Mentawai Islands District.

In addition, TNI must maximize the implementation of Military Operations other Than War (OMSP). Such as forest fire prevention, flood, landslide aid, and operation of tinombala in combating terrorist acts.

He also reminded TNI to continue to build good communication with people, as a form of universal defense application that involves the entire potential of nation in defending the country.

The 72nd anniversary ceremony was held in Imam Bonjol Green Open Space, Padang, with the theme namely "Bersama Rakyat, TNI Kuat".

The drama also depicts the history of the struggle against the Dutch, the martial arts of Yong Moo Do from Yonif 133 Yudha Sakti, Karate Rampak Gendang from the Marine Balyon of Navy II Defense of Padang. (cha)
