Lubukbasung (ANTARA) - A goat belonging to a resident of Kampuang Subarang Parik, Nagari Sungai Pua, Palembayan Subdistrict, Agam Regency, West Sumatra was attacked by wild sun bear while in the cage, Thursday (8/6) morning.
The Forest Ecosystem Controller of the Agam Resort Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA), Ade Putra in Lubukbasung, Thursday, said that the goat belonging to Bahruni (59) was injured in the stomach and neck.
"The owner found the goat was dead after being injured on the neck and stomach," he said.
He guessed the goat was attacked by sun bear based on identification made by BKSDA officers after receiving information about animal conflicts in the area from the nagari government.
To ensure that the animals prey on residents' livestock, he added, the Agam Resort BKSDA has installed camera traps.
"We will install this trap camera for the next few days to monitor the animal's presence," he said.
He added, the distance of the cage with the owner's house around 20 meters. While the location distance from Maninjau Nature Reserve is about 2.3 kilometers.
Previously there were also wild animal conflict in Sungai Pua, Palembayan District at the end of June 2020, which caused the people's buffalo being eaten by the Sumatran tiger.
With this incident, Ade urged residents to increase awareness by installing lights at the location of the cage, not herding livestock around the area and others.
"It must be done so that livestock are not predated by wild animals," he said.
