Sarilamak (ANTARA) - The cultural heritage site, Menhir in Nagari Maek, Limapuluh Kota Regency, W Sumatra, known as Village with a thousand menhirs apparently has not been visited by many tourists but the historical heritage seemed to know no despair waiting for visitors.
Menhir Bawah Parit keeper, Koto Tinggi Wike Aprilia in Maek on Monday said that the level of daily community visits was still relatively low.
"Visitors come every day, but most of them have interests such as research or assignments," he said.
He said the cultural heritage site would be crowded if there were activities held, both the activities of the Regency Government or other parties.
"We don't know the exact reason why interest in visiting these cultural attractions is still low. "Even on holidays, not many who visit," he said.
In fact, he said, to visit the place there was no fee at all.
"But those who want to contribute voluntarily are fine. However, the entrance fee is still free, "he said.
Even so, it is suspected that one of the causes is the low of community visits because access to reach the place is not good enough.
"The road to here can also be said to be unfavorable because there are still many that have not been paved and the location is quite far from urban areas," he said.
Going forward, he hopes that access to the location of the Menhir cultural heritage site in Maek can be improved, so that the level of community visits to come for tours increases.
"At present, the Cultural Heritage Conservation Agency (BPCB) has appointed two people as janitors," he said.
In Nagari Maek there are more than 1,000 Menhirs and most of them are in the location of Menhir Bawah Parit, Koto Tinggi which reaches 354 Menhirs.
Furthermore, there are about 100 menhirs at Koto Godang and 50s at Ronah. The rest are scattered in other locations in Maek.
