Pariaman (ANTARA) - Nusantara Expo 2019, which was held at Gandoriah Beach, Pariaman City, W Sumatra, to enliven Nusantara Day, presented a number of regional handicraft products in Indonesia and the performance of ministries and SOEs.

"Many ministries have come to support the commemoration of Nusantara Day activities," said Assistant for Economic Development and Welfare, Benny Warlis during a speech at the opening of the 2019 Nusantara Expo in Pariaman on Tuesday.

Not only that, he continued, Nusantara Expo participants came from various regions in Indonesia in order to promote their products.

According to him it can help promote Pariaman to all regions in Indonesia especially since the area is a tourism city.

He said the commemoration of Nusantara Day needed to be held to convey to the citizens of Indonesia and the world that this nation was a large nation and had abundant natural resources.

At the Nusantara Expo, there were a number of handicrafts, local special accessories, to the performance of ministries and SOEs as well as marine wealth from the relevant ministries.

Meanwhile, Mayor of Pariaman Genius Umar said that he felt lucky because he was appointed as the host of commemoration of the 2019 Nusantara Day.

"This can support Pariaman as a tourism city," he said.

He explained that Nusantara Day began with the commemoration of the Juanda Declaration which stated that Indonesia was an archipelagic country so that the land and sea were a unity.

With this declaration, the Indonesian inter-island sea is not an international route that is easily entered by foreign ships.

"Therefore, the commemoration of the Archipelago Day must be known by all Indonesian people," he added.
