Jakarta, (Antara Sumbar) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is considering a request to use the village funds for developing libraries to foster the habit of reading among communities in remote villages.

"The minister of culture and education has stated about the use of village funds for library, and I will take the matter into account," Jokowi remarked, while inauguration the building of National Library on Merdeka Selatan Street, on Thursday (Sept 14).

Jokowi also stated that he continued to encourage literacy activists in rural communities to increase the habit of reading.

"I have promised to send free books on literacy for the literacy activists on the 17th of every month," the president noted.

He remarked that he wanted to know directly from the literacy activists if his program was being implemented well or not.

On the occasion, the president also asked the research and higher education minister to distribute international journals of all universities to the national library. (*)
