Durian Sticky Rice Attracts Visitors at Carocok Beach

Painan, (Antaranews Sumbar) - A durian sticky rice preparation made from glutinous rice cooked with durian was savored by tourists at Carocok Beach, Painan, South Pesisir District, West Sumatera Province, during Lebaran 2018.

"The price per portion of durian sticky rice is Rp10 thousand, and since the first day of the Lebaran holiday season, we are always sold out," a durian sticky rice seller at Carocok Beach Osni noted here on Wednesday (June 20).

He remarked that other traders were able to increase their revenue that reached Rp2 million per day.

Meanwhile, Ringga, a buyer of durian sticky rice, stated that the dish has its own charm as compared to other snacks.

"Sticky rice, which is savory and sweet mixed with durian, is really tasty," he remarked.

Traders at Carocok Beach, Painan, have to take additional efforts, especially to find good durian and have also traveled up to tens of kilometers to the durian gardens owned by the local community.

Furthermore, they will walk for thirty minutes to an hour to get fresh and cooked durians.

This is since the local area has just entered the durian season, so it is quite difficult to find good-quality durian.

This situation will be different for the next few weeks, as usually the stalls in traditional markets will stock up durian.

The Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office of South Pesisir recorded 51,578 tourists, who had visited the Carocok Beach in Painan.

On the third day of the Eid al-Fitr holidays, some 15,110 tourists were recorded, while on the first day of the Lebaran holidays, only 745 tourists had visited. (*)
