Ministry To Add Public Transport for 'Mudik'

Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi said that the government will add the number of public transport for mudik (mass exodus of people returning to their hometowns) in Eid al-Fitr 1439 Hijriah to fulfill the needs of community.

"We will increase the number of transportation from the current one," he remarked while giving a public lecture at Bung Hatta University in here on Monday.

He noted that the number of additions ranged from railway transportation about five to seven percent.

As for air transport, it will be added about 10 percent and land transportation is the biggest which reached 20 percent.

According to him, the amount addition is devoted to public transport to various regions in Indonesia

"We also check the means of transportation both for land, sea and air for homecoming activities can run smoothly," he said.

In the homecoming later, he asked that the community to do not carry out homecoming activities on H-2 because the volume of vehicles on the road is quite dense and the number of passengers on air and sea ships are also full.

"We recommend that homecoming schedule has started from H-6 because the traffic flow is still quiet," he added. (cha)
