Telkomsel Anticipates Spike in Data Traffic

Payakumbuh, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Telkomsel seeks to anticipate the spike in data traffic that occurs during Ramadhan (fasting month), and Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr) in West Sumatra, including during homecoming moment.

"It is estimated that the use of data traffic in West Sumatra increased 45 percent compared to normal days in the Ramadhan and Lebaran periods," Telkomsel President Director Ririek Adriansyah in a written statement received in here on Friday (May 18).

Therefore, the SOE subsidiary began to improve all elements of network at the strategic points of homecoming route, as well as public hub centers.

For the region of West Sumatra, Telkomsel prioritizes three lanes homecoming route namley Padang-Rao, Padang-Sungai Rumbai, and Padang-Pekanbaru.

It also mapped a number of special locations such as Minangkabau International Airport, Jam Gadang Bukittinggi, and others as a crowd point.

He said the preparations as an effort to provide comfort to communicate for customers, during the period of Ramadhan and Lebaran 2018.

"This period is something special, because it is the moment of Telkomsel's network and services are being tested, so the preparations have been made earlier," he explained.

Nationally, data traffic spikes are expected to increase up to 40 percent compared to normal days.

The high use of data services is triggered by community activities that often upload photos, videos, or other activities in social media and instant messaging applications.

"Customers also use data services to access culinary information, lodging, and enjoy a variety of digital entertainment services such as video, music, and games," he pointed out.

In general, he said Telkomsel specifically built 12,000 Base Transceiver Station (BTS) multi-band Long Term Evolution (LTE) throughout Indonesia to deliver quality services and adequate capacity.

"Overall customer convenience is supported by more than 167,000 BTS across Indonesia, 35,000 4G BTS to maximize the use of data services," he said.

On the other hand, Telkomsel deployed service posts at 772 strategic points on the homecoming route and major tourist sites. (cha)
