Bulog Prepares 10,000 Tons Rice for Ramadhan

Payakumbuh, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Regional Logistics Agency (Bulog) of West Sumatra Regional prepare 10,000 tons of rice as the anticipation of price increases during Ramadhan (fasting month) and Lebaran (Eid Al-Fitr).

"West Sumatra Bulog has prepared 10 thousand tons of rice, and based on calculations, it can fulfill the needs for the next six months," Head of West Sumatra Bulog, Suharto Djabar stated while being contacted on Tuesday.

The stock does not only for the needs of citizens and the preparation of market operations, but also for the social assistance needs of prosperous rice.

"Bulog is ready to release the stock to conduct market operations when there is a spike of price later," he said.

He mentioned that 10,000 rice stocks consist of 1,500 tons which purchased from local farmers and the rest comes from Jakarta.

The purchase of local farmers' rice consists of two of Bulog's activities, namely the obligation of public service (PSO), and commercial.

For PSO rice, it will be sold with price range of Rp8,030 per kilogram, while commercial at Rp10,000 to Rp11,000 per kilogram, or it is depending on the type of variety.

In addition to rice, Bulog also prepares a stock of sugar as much as 1,500 tons and cooking oil 50,000 liters.

As for wheat flour, the company prepared a stock of 30,000 kilograms.

Bulog will also conduct market operations for chili and meat during Ramadhan, if the market price is too high. Currently stocks of 28 tons of frozen meat have been prepared at Rp80 thousand per kilogram. (cha)
