West Pasaman, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini visited children affected by the 6.1-magnitude quake in the region on Friday (Feb 25) that were currently staying in an evacuation center in Kajai Village, West Pasaman, West Sumatra.

"Today, I and my team visited the quake survivors and distributed aid to them," the minister noted in Simpang Ampek, West Pasaman, on Saturday.

Rismaharini was welcomed by the children, who greeted her while arriving at the refugee camp. The minister then distributed relief aid to the disaster victims.

The minister also committed to providing trauma healing service to children at the evacuation center by dispatching a Psycho-social Support Service team to reduce the stress that the children might suffer due to the disaster.

During her visit, the support team had interacted with the children and entertained them by singing songs and playing games and riddles together.

After visiting the children, the minister then observed damaged homes in Kajai Village and symbolically awarded compensation worth Rp15 million (US$1,050) to the next-of-kin of a person, who died in the quake.

Rismaharini said that the observation was conducted to determine requisite follow-up action by the ministry while coordinating with the local authority and relevant institutions.

Meanwhile, the ministry's Handayani child rehabilitation center head, Sulis Tya, affirmed that the agency will continue to offer the trauma healing service through gradual and continuous measures.
