Batusangkar (ANTARA) - Hundreds of tourists from Kunming City, China failed to watch the Pacu jawi (Cow Race) event held at Nagari Sungai Jambu, Tanah Datar District, W Sumatra.
Hundreds of tourists from Kunming City, China temporarily canceled visiting Tanah Datar on the second day they toured several tourist attractions in W Sumatra.
The Head of the Tanah Datar Youth and Sports Tourism Office, Abdul Hakim in Batusangkar, on Monday said the cancellation of the visit was made after consideration of both parties from the tourist group and the local government.
Tourists from the city of Kunming, China were protested by residents in Bukittinggi City, it was feared that demonstration would also occur in Tanah Datar.
"For the agreement, the regent has stated that the arrival of tourists from China to Tanah Datar was canceled," he said.
Previously according to schedule, when the group arrived Istano Basa Pagaruyung around 09.30 a.m will be welcomed with Tari Galombang (Traditional dance in W Sumatra).
Then, one of the agenda of the visit was to witness the Pacu Jawi ((Cow Race) which is an annual tourism event in Tanah Datar District.
Pacu jawi is a traditional game where jockeys stand behind cows to accompany cows to run in muddy rice fields.
