Padang (ANTARA) - Activists for the Pancadaya Waste Bank, Kuranji District, Padang City, West Sumatra processed organic waste into a natural disinfectant that kills bacteria and fungi so that it can be used as a substitute for chemical cleaning fluids.

"Apart processing plastic waste, we are also studying new innovations and processing organic waste in the form of eco enzymes," said Director of the Pancadaya Waste Bank, Mina Dewi in Padang, Wednesday.

Eco enzyme is the result of fermentation of organic waste such as fruit and vegetable pulp mixed with brown sugar and left in water for about three months.

The process of making eco enzyme is very easy, for 10 liters of water, just need 1 kilogram of brown sugar and 3 kilograms of vegetable waste. However, the vegetable waste used must be fresh, not cooked waste.

"The processing uses a closed container. However, it should be given a little space to remove the gas from the fermentation product," she said.

Apart from using organic waste, making eco enzyme can also use other leaves in the yard such as wood leaves, flower leaves, and others.

"The results of this fermentation will give off a fragrant smell. Then the smell that appears is based on the more dominant leaves," she added.

Then the white sap that is released during fermentation is also useful for cleaning black spots on the face. But waited three months for it to be used with cotton.

Furthermore, she explained that until now a solution to the waste problem has not been found. For this reason, as a waste bank activist, she continues to learn more about waste management so that it can be developed in the community later.

Previously, she had done many things to make people aware of waste. For example, processing plastic waste into valuable souvenirs and processing organic waste into compost.

Not only that, she also created a program to save waste into gold, which is the result of cooperation with Pegadaian.

After that, the local community's concern for waste has started to increase. This can be seen in the increasing number of customers.

"Alhamdulillah, Pancadaya Waste Bank customers are currently increasing, even reaching 600 people and is expected to reach 1,000 customers," she said.
