Padang (ANTARA) - The results of a survey of the Tourism Development Center of Andalas University (Unand) Padang in collaboration with Bank Indonesia (BI) found the authenticity of attractions and tourism abject in West Sumatra became the motivation and foreign tourists attraction visiting the area.

"From all tourism attractions offered in West Sumatra ranging from scenery, culinary, culture, as many as 83.6 percent of foreign tourists stated that the biggest motivation for traveling is due to the authenticity that is owned," said Director of Tourism Development Center of Andalas University, Padang, Sari Lenggogeni, Ph.d. in Padang, Tuesday.

She said that on the dissemination of the West Sumatra economic report in May 2020 with the theme of West Sumatra Economic Recovery and Tourism in the era of adaptation of COVID-19.

Therefore, she regretted tourism destinations in West Sumatra that did not do the tourism development based on their own identities.

According to her, actually, foreign tourists are looking for the authenticity of West Sumatra

"This was proven some time ago West Sumatra was chosen by National Geographic to be Gordon Ramsay's filming place in the Uncharted program because of its authenticity," she explained.

Therefore, she reminded not to develop tourism with Europe style, Korea and so on because the tourists love the authenticity of West Sumatra.

Then, she advised tourism owners in West Sumatra to digitize, especially in marketing.

Based on a survey conducted there are five best destinations for foreign tourists to West Sumatra, such as Bukittinggi, Mentawai, Padang, Tanah Datar and Payakumbuh.

While for the perception of foreign tourists about West Sumatra 34.3 percent view as a cultural city, 21.3 percent of natural tourism cities, 17 percent of rendang cities, 2 percent of festival cities and 1.18 percent of fashion cities.

Then in the development of tourism must consider the atmosphere what visitors want and in fact, foreign tourists want to have fun with the cultural atmosphere and interesting places to take pictures.
