West Sumatra started to export fishery products in June 2020

Padang (ANTARA) - The Station of Fish Quarantine, Quality Control and Fishery Product Security/SKIPM of Padang noted the fishery products export from the area to abroad has started running in the new normal.

The Head of SKIPM of Padang, Rudi Barmara in Padang, Wednesday, said that since the implementation of the Large Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) that was caused of COVID-19, the fishery products was reduced because there were no plane which can bring it to abroad.

"Since the new normal era, fishery exports started in June 2020 to several countries," he said.

He said that export activities of fishery products were in the form of frozen tuna that was sent to U.S of America in one shipping.

Totally there were 22,37 tons of frozen tuna that was sent to Miami, U.S from W Sumatra with the price of IDR4,45 billion.

"Totally, there were 15000 that was exported in June 2020. These fish were exported the company that issued the fish health certificates to us," he said.

According to him, in this early July 2020, export also was conducted but the shipping was done via Jakarta and then to destination country. The fish that was sent was decorative fish.

There were several fishery products which is usually sent to Japan and U.S such as tuna fish. Then, to Malaysia like garing, grouper, lobster and other.

He made sure the quality of fishery products in W Sumatra free from dangerous disease before exported to various countries.

According to him, checkout was done to ensure the fish quality that will be export.

"The ship unloads fish at this port once a week and we want to ensure that the catches to be exported are in accordance with existing provisions," he said.

In addition to checked physically the freshness of the catch fish with the characteristics of the fish meat is still chewy and the eyes are still bright. He also took fish samples to be checked in the laboratory.

"In the laboratory we will determine whether these fish are free from formaldehyde, hestamine, heavy metals and in accordance with the request of the destination country. If they are free, they will be given a certificate that states the fish are clean from disease and export-worthy," he explained.

According to him, all laboratory facilities owned by BKIPIM Padang have been accredited by the National Accreditation Agency to ensure quality of fish consumed by the public or exported.

"For fishery exports consisting of tuna, garing, grouper, freshwater lobster, in addition to abroad, fish from W Sumatra are also sent to various regions in Indonesia," he continued.
