Mentawai Islands included in 62 underdeveloped areas which will be boosted by the Ministry of Village PDTT

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Mentawai Islands Regency in W Sumatra Province is included in the list of 62 Regencies whose development has been promoted by The Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration (Kemendes PDTT) .

The government encouraged the acceleration of the development of 62 underdeveloped areas in 2020-2024 according to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 63 of 2020 concerning the determination of underdeveloped areas in 2020-2024, said the Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Areas and Transmigration Abdul Halim Iskandar in a written statement received by ANTARA, Jakarta, Sunday.

With this regulation, The Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration will formulate policies to accelerate the development of disadvantaged regions.

Underdeveloped areas are regency regions whose regions and communities are less developed than other regions on a national scale.

The underdeveloped areas were located in a number of provinces such as North Sumatra, Central Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua and West Papua.

The underdeveloped areas in North Sumatra Province are Nias Regency, South Nias Regency, North Nias Regency and West Nias Regency.

Other underdeveloped areas are in the Mentawai Islands Regency in West Sumatra Province, North Musi Rawas Regency in South Sumatra Province, Pesisir Barat Regency in Lampung Province, North Lombok Regency in West Nusa Tenggara Province.

Underdeveloped regions in East Nusa Tenggara Province are West Sumba Regency, East Sumba Regency, Kupang Regency, South Central Timor Regency, Belu Regency, Alor Regency, Lembata Regency, Rote Ndao Regency, Central Sumba Regency, Southwest Sumba Regency, East Manggarai Regency, Sabu Raijua Regency and Malacca Regency.

In Central Sulawesi Province, there are underdeveloped areas in Donggala, Tojo Una-una and Sigi Regencies.

In Maluku Province, underdeveloped areas include West Southeast Maluku Regency, Aru Islands Regency, West Seram Regency, East Seram Regency, Southwest Maluku Regency and South Buru Regency.

Underdeveloped areas in North Maluku Province include Sula Islands Regency and Pulau Talibau Regency.

In West Papua Province, underdeveloped areas are in the Regency of Teluk Wondama, Teluk Bintuni Regency, South Sorong Regency, Sorong Regency, Tambrauw Regency, Maybrat Regency, South Manokwari Regency, and Pegunungan Arfak Regency.

In Papua Province, there are underdeveloped areas in Jayawijaya Regency, Nabire Regency, Paniai Regency, Puncak Jaya Regency, Boven Digoel Regency, Mappi Regency, Asmat Regency, Yahukimo Regency, Pegunungan Bintang Regency, Tolikara Regency, Keerom Regency, Waropen Regency, Supiori Regency , Mamberamo Raya Regency, Nduga Regency, Lanny Jaya Regency, Central Mamberamo Regency, Yalimo Regency, Puncak Regency, Dogiyai Regency, Intan Jaya Regency, and Deiyai Regency.
