Unand Hospital prepares 12 rooms for COVID-19 patients

Padang (ANTARA) - Andalas University Hospital prepared 12 rooms to accommodate patients exposed to COVID-19 to help two referral hospitals that began to overwhelm patients.

"We have reviewed the readiness of Unand Hospital. There are some that are not ready, but on Wednesday or Thursday it can be used to treat corona patients," Deputy Governor of West Sumatra Nasrul Abit said in Padang on Sunday.

Nasrul said that Unand Hospital would become a referral hospital for corona patients in West Sumatra. So, there will be three hospitals prepared. While Padang Regional Hospital and Pariaman District Regional Hospital are also directed to be able to handle corona patients.

Director of Padang Unand Hospital Yevri Zulfiqar said of the 12 rooms, one of which will function as an ICU that is ready to be used if needed.

"We have also prepared a team. Five lung specialist doctors, internal medicine doctors and 12 nurses. Doctors from the medical faculty will also join," he said.

At present, Unand Hospital has handled 53 People Under Monitoring (ODP) and one Patient Under surveillance (PDP).

At that time the hospital facilities were inadequate, one PDP patient was sent to M.Djamil Padang Hospital. However, the test results were negative.

"We also have portable x-rays and ventilators to complement the needs of treating corona patients," he said.

The room provided for corona patients is the ground floor which is close to the waste recycling facility, so it is safe and will not affect and disturb other patients.

Normally, one patient will be placed in one room so there is no transmission among patients. However, in an emergency that can change.

Currently there are only 70 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), later West Sumatra Provincial Government will add PPE.
