Deputy Mayor Payakumbuh proposes Rendang as a food reserve when disaster

Padang (ANTARA) - Deputy mayor of Payakumbuh, W Sumatera, Erwin Yunas proposed the Rendang as a food reserve during the disaster because it is much more nutritious and durable.

"During this time if there is a natural disaster of society given food aid in the form of Rendang a but it just in the form of instant noodles, if the original Rendang will be better," he said in Padang, Thursday when discussing with the redactions Antara of W Sumatra.

It conveys that with good packing Rendang can hold up to a year so no need to worry about expiration.

"Other than that, Rendang has better nutrition and tastes good, moreover it was recognized as one of the most delicious foods in the world by CNN," he said.

Moreover, Rendang has also gained a place in the tongue of Indonesian society.

According to him with the right cooking process and good packaging Rendang will be able to hold up to two years either packed in cans or special packaging food.

If the rendang becomes a food reserve it will revive the small medium enterprises engaged in the culinary field.

One effort to grow SMES is not by providing equipment but creating markets and demands, he said.

He assessed that if the idea is accommodated by National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) then the community economy will be more developed and the food available for disaster backup is much better.

He presented at this time Payakumbuh through Rendang village which is the center of the rendang industry has been able to produce two tons of rendang per day.

The center of Rendang in Payakumbuh also became a national pilot project for the development of SMES in the homeland, he said.
