Padang (ANTARA) - PT Angkasa Pura II will operate a new terminal at Minangkabau International Airport in Padang Pariaman, W Sumatra which is currently under construction in February 2020.

"For the soft opening in February 2020, the work process has now reached around 60 percent," said PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin in Padang Pariaman on Saturday.

According to him the new terminals and old terminals will be connected so that the redesign of the layout of the terminal building is also done to ensure departure and arrival of passengers on domestic and international routes.

After the new terminal and the old terminal are connected then the Minangkabau International Airport has a capacity of 5.7 million passengers each year," he said.

He said that in September 2020 it would be ready for full operation and revitalization of the old terminal would also be carried out.

Awaluddin said the number of airplane passengers in 2018 had reached about 4.2 million people, while the capacity was only around 2.2 million people per year.

It is hoped that with the existence of a new terminal that can make a capacity of 5.7 million people per year, service standards and comfort of flights to passengers can be increased, he said.

In addition to building a new terminal, PT Angkasa Pura II has also completed 100 percent apron development.

The apron was expanded to 92,250 square meters so that it has 15 aircraft parking areas, compared to only 8 parking lots previously.

He added that through the construction of a new terminal and the expansion of the apron, the Minangkabau International Airport will be more optimal in supporting Padang, and W Sumatra, as one of the main tourist destinations in Indonesia.
