Chief Representative of BKKBN W Sumatra, Syahruddin said in Padang on Monday that the selection of the mascot had been held nationally from 15 Oct to 15 Nov 2019 with 47 participants.
The jury screened to 13 people and then screened back to five people. A total of five people gave a direct presentation of their work to the jury, Andalas Pramono, University FIB lecturer, Padang Panjang DKV ISI lecturer Olivianda Ariesta, and Head of BKKBN Promotion Section Fimela Apriany.
As a result, the work of Students of DKV ISI Padang Panjang M.Afif was chosen by the jury to be the best, followed by Tri Purnama's work with the name "Mala" ranked second, and "Silu" by Fahrozi ranked third.
He expressed his gratitude for getting the best mascot from the jury's evaluation, which is "Si Hasa".
He considered that the mascot represented the desired element of the jury, namely the program side, aesthetics and messages of local content, religion, culture, and creative economy.
Mascot maker "Si Hasa", Afif in his presentation said that "Si Hasa" represents Harganas' activity, which is a day with family.
He said the female balam bird mascot used minang female clothing, and she chose the female bird because of the important role of women in the life of the Minangkabau community.
"This bird also has six tail feathers as a pointer in June as a schedule for celebrating Harganas," he said.
He claimed not to have thought that his work would be the best.
According to him, the work was made within a day, but the concept had been designed long ago.
"I was inspired by the Garuda bird, the feathers on its neck and tail contain philosophical values and this I attach to 'Si Hasa'," he said.
