Padang-India cooperate in the field of tourism

Padang (ANTARA) - The Government of Padang City has a number of cooperation plans with India, especially in tourism, trade, education and information technology.

"We have submitted proposals for the city of Chennai related to several cooperation points in the field of tourism because Padang and Chennai have a cultural resemblance," said Mayor of Padang Mahyeldi in Padang, on Monday.

He conveyed this when he received an honorary visit from the Indian Consul General that have an office in Medan City, North Sumatera Mr.Raghu Gururaj.

According to him there is already a cooperation in the form of a twin city between Padang and Chennai, which is in the province of Tamil Nadu, India.

This Padang-Chennai sister city cooperation was initiated a year ago on November 2018.

According to him, India is one of the developing countries in IT and health.

In India there is a private hospital called Apolo Hospital located in Chennai which has more advanced cancer treatment technology than conventional technology treatment in Indonesia.

"We hope that the cooperation in this field of health can be concrete especially with the health or hospital in Padang later," he said.

Then, related to the cooperation in the field of culture, in the city of Padang there are various traditions made by the people of Indian descent one of the traditions 'Serak Gulo'.

Likewise, the event held by Padang city government involved Indian culture in the activities of Padang Indonesian Ocean Music Festival (PIOMFest) and Siti Nurbaya Festival held annually.

"Through these three events we expect the city of Chennai, should be able to participate," he said.
