Revitalization of 'Rumah Gadang' will begin on November 2019

Padang Aro (ANTARA) - Revitalization of the Saribu Rumah Gadang area in Solok Selatan Regency, W Sumatra, will begin on November 2019.

"The latest information is that the W Sumatra Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center at the end October 2019 has signed a contract and the process will begin in November," said Head of Tourism and Culture Office of Solok Selatan, Harry Trisna, in Padang Aro, on Thursday.

He said the revitalization process was in accordance with the first plan at a cost of Rp110 billion and for this year it could only be accommodated at Rp35 billion and the rest would be carried out in 2020.

This year construction is being carried out for five 'Rumah Gadang' units and the surrounding area so that others are proposed in 2020

"It is also possible that the surrounding area cannot be completed this year so that it will continue in 2020," he said.

With this revitalization, it is hoped that the Saribu Rumah Gadang area will be more attractive so that it can increase traffic and increase Regional Original Revenue (PAD) and the community's economy.

For the revitalization process of the Saribu Rumah Gadang area in Nagari (traditional village) Koto Baru requires 685 cubic meters of wood.

The type of wood that will be used to revitalize 'Rumah Gadang' has been determined, namely jua, banio, lead, kruning, kuranji, kompe, meranti, surian, marsawa and bayua wood.

For 'Rumah Gadang' that were heavily damaged as many as 17 units needed 425 cubic meters of wood, 240 cubic meters of moderate damage and 20 cubic meters with various sizes with the largest reaching 20-30 centimeters.
